🛒 Ingredients
- 8 oz (about 2 cups) elbow macaroni
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella (optional for extra gooeyness)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp mustard powder (optional, for depth of flavor)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Optional toppings:
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- Cooked bacon bits, herbs, or extra cheese

Cook the pasta

Boil macaroni in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Make the cheese sauce

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to make a roux.

Slowly whisk in milk until smooth and thickened.

Add cheese & seasoning

Stir in cheddar and mozzarella until melted. Add garlic powder, mustard powder, salt, and pepper.

Combine pasta & sauce

Toss drained macaroni into the cheese sauce until fully coated.
