Caramelized Apple Pie


🛒 Ingredients

For the crust

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp ice water

For the filling

  • 6 large apples (Granny Smith + Honeycrisp mix recommended)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

For the caramel glaze

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup heavy cream


👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Make the pie crust

    • Combine flour, butter, and salt in a bowl. Mix until crumbly.

    • Add ice water gradually until dough comes together. Chill for 30 minutes.

  2. Prepare the apple filling

    • Peel, core, and slice apples. Toss with sugars, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

    • In a skillet, melt butter and cook the apples until softened and lightly caramelized.

  3. Roll and assemble

    • Roll out chilled dough. Place one crust in a pie dish, add filling, and cover with the second crust (or lattice style).

    • Seal edges, cut vents, and brush with egg wash.

  4. Bake

    • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 50–55 minutes until golden brown.

  5. Caramel glaze

    • In a saucepan, melt sugar until golden. Stir in butter and cream until smooth.

    • Drizzle over warm pie before serving.
